In short
Self-regulated learning involves taking control of one’s own learning processes independently and with a sense of responsibility (Boekaerts & Simons, 1995). The ability to guide the learning process is highly valuable, as learning is an active process. Self-regulation is even considered one of the most essential skills for learning (Boud, 2000). Self-regulated learning is often associated with ownership.
Self-regulated learning consists of three facets:
- Cognitive strategies
- Metacognitive strategies
- Motivational strategies
