Summary
In this activity, you have students actively take notes or summarize: you let them listen or read for a while, and only then take notes. In this way, you ask students to listen or read more actively and then actively process the information.
Step by step
• Ask students to listen actively: no writing! • Give students time to take notes after a few minutes or longer (depending on how full your story or instruction is). • Optionally discuss centrally or through Think-Pair-Share what they have written down.
Tips
You can also have students apply this well when summarizing: teach them to read, close the book, then write the summary, and then supplement it by opening the book again. This makes summarizing an active process.
Requirements
Notebook or computer per student.
